I have a new dress to show you today. This is something I made right after the New Year, so I guess this will be my first creation of 2012!
This is a dress I made for a pregnancy photo shoot, inspired by the pretty vintage pattern cover. I’m assuming it is from the 60’s. I just love the mini dress and the bloomers! I wish I could pull it off but in reality, I’m not sure if I will look right in bloomers. Anyway, I think the dress is so cute. Top right is my sketch for the dress. I added a sash so the waist can be tightened if it needs to be. I also added a piping detail along the seam lines.
Although it seems like the front side panels and front skirt are all in one pattern, I decided to separate it into front side, top front and front skirt sections. I feared the pivots I would have to make attaching the top front to all in one pattern. I also wanted to accent the seam lines with white piping.
Here is the result. Since I do not have the vintage pattern on hand (just the picture), I drafted the pattern myself based on the body measurements.
The fabric I used is a 100% wool in navy blue. The piping is 100% cotton.
I also made a matching bow tie and a pocket square with left over fabrics.
The pattern I used for the bow tie is David #BS-008 from BurdaStyle.
