As I wrote yesterday, I am tackling on my very first quilting project! I am super excited. I always thought quilting was for old women, but after seeing some fashionable people like Nette and Stefanie worked on quilt, I’m convinced that I am going to make one as well.
I want to decorate my bedroom loft with my first quilt tapestry. Since my bed is up on the third floor loft, I do not use bed frame or headboard for the bed, because of the lack of space. I want to decorate that area with a nice modern quilt tapestry instead of a headboard. After collecting and thinking about the patterns for the quilt, I’ve decided to use the pattern below (image via stylemepretty).
I know it is not a quilting pattern. Rather, it looks like it’s made of tiles. But I decided on this because I like the combination of yellow and white, and it seems like I can make this with just square pieces. I also like the modern feel to it.
I’m planning on connecting the squares together using sewing machine (or do you recommend hand stitching? I have no idea when it comes to this), then sandwich the quilt batting with the patch worked piece and white fabric, and sew straight stitches to finish up.
Below is my little sketch for the pattern and the pieces I cut out. I used my scrap fabrics to cut out 50 squares for each color.
I’m so excited for my new challenge! Do you have any recommendation for beginner quilter? Any good blogs or websites to read?
