We have been inactively working on Kiko’s potty training for the past few months, and I am proud to say that she can go out in big girl underwear during the day without accidents! I think there are two major approaches to potty training; the short term, boot camp style training or long term organic training. We chose the latter. I don’t remember when exactly we started potty training Kiko, but she was trained to poop in the toilet first, and slowly got used to peeing as well. When she first started pooping in the toilet, we gave her a treat – small snack like a candy or cookie. Once she got used to pooping in the toilet, we took away the treat and put her on a toilet every hour for peeing. During this time, she was wearing diapers. We just recently started using big girl underwear when we realized that she can keep her diaper dry the entire day.
It was a slow process but we found it much less painful than going hard in a short period of time! She still wears diapers at night, mostly because I am too lazy to clean up when an accident happens. What is your potty training style?

I think you are right. You can trained your baby in short time or you can take long time to trained her. if you want to trained your baby in short time than i have a suggestion for you. You can try potty training app to trained her.

Hey hey.. This topic is up my alley.
Personally, I believed that a child not only needs to achieve cognitive milestones but also behavioral milestones. Not comparing, but I have a number of friends’ whose child has been weaned off the diapers at night by the time they turned 1yo. Ava has been off diapers in the day when was 2yo, but I just cldnt put my finger on how to train her for the night haul. I cldn’t quite fanthom myself what did I not do (or did) since my child is 4yo and STILL in diapers at night. And I realized…I didn’t provide her the natural stimulus to naturally encourage her to stay dry or wake up for night peeing. See.. She was in diapers and dry all night! Of course she won’t wake up to pee! So I borrowed some cloth diapers that cld still fit her, put on a waterproof mattress protector, and place a potty in her room. Before bed, I gave her a little less milk than her usual dose, and put her on a cloth diaper. And wet herself she did! Obviously, she woke up very annoyed that she was so, so wet. The same thing happened the 2nd night. By the 3rd night, she told me she doesnt want the cloth diaper anymore and wants back her disposable diaper. I reminded her we are potty training her. From the 3rd night onwards, she actually woke up herself, and when i asked her whether she wants to pee.. she gave me a resounding YES…..!
As an encouragement, I told her we will keep her on cloth diaper for another 2 weeks. If she continues to stay dry or wake up for her night pee, we will remove the cloth diaper entirely and she can just sleep with her pajamas pants. She was super excited about it. From then on, she either wakes up to pee or stay dry the whole nigh. Within 2 weeks, the diapers came off. HUGE GRIN!!

Great story! Using the sheet protector and cloth diaper is a good idea. I have to get the protector first before starting to train Kiko for the night. I hope Kiko will be able to do what your daughter did! Thanks for the encouragement:)

🙂 Wished I had known earlier. 2 years and an obscene amount of disposable diapers later. Good luck!

Thanks Lisa! I started from taking away the diaper during nap. It was a success today!
