We are throwing Kiko’s first birthday party on the second Saturday of April. Thank you all for your suggestions on the birthday theme! I’ve decided to go for “piggy and pink” as Emily suggested. As a starter, I decided to make a pinata shaped as a pig. In Japan they don’t sell pinata’s and a quick google search led me to the conclusion that buying a pinata and having it shipped to Japan would be too expensive.
So, based on this tutorial, I made a pinata. I wanted it pig shaped and decorated it all in pink. However, the origami paper I bought had multiple colors and not enough pink. So I just used random colors glued them on the cardboard…At the end I was sad since it kinda looked like a child’s project.
Also, growing up in Japan where there is no pinata, I didn’t know what was inside. I heard there are snacks. So I filled the pig up with chocolates and crakers (senbei). Later Andy found out what I put inside and laughed at me. Hopefully people don’t judge me on this and be happy with the free senbei they get at Kiko’s birthday party.

It’s so cute! Don’t feel bad about the “filling,” I went to a wedding shower once and they put Jello-shots (alcohol) and small lotions and soaps inside. I think you can do whatever you want!
Kiko’s going to have the best 1st birthday party! 🙂
