It’s been almost three months since I started this project, but my first quilt is almost done! I sewed the pieces together by machine, and quilted by hand. I went through a season and a half of Project Runway shows while I quilted. It is really relaxing, and I actually regret making fun of my friend and calling her a grandma when she first mentioned the quilting thing to me (Yes, you Kaitlyn<3 ). All I need to do now is to finish the edge with bias strips, and I’m planning on doing it by hand. It is a mini quilt, and measures one meter in height and width. I initially planned to hang this in my bedroom loft as a headboard(got the idea from here), but after looking at the quilt, I might not do that. It might not be super stylish to hang a quilt… I might just give it to Kiko for her to use as a blanket.
When I visited my friends in Yokosuka recently, I found these beautiful quilts in their guest bedroom. I could not stop myself from taking some pictures! They said they didn’t know where the quilts came from, and they might have been store bought. So, I cannot conclusively say they are handmade one of a kind pieces, but they were really beautiful nonetheless. The quilts were double-sided, and the both front and back were patch-worked. Great way to use fabric scraps!
I would love to try another quilt again this winter. I’m thinking of trying a rail fence quilt next.
