Some people find Japanese Summer weather hard to bear with, since it’s humid and muggy. When I feel the humidity in the air and I can no longer put my hair down, it for some reason gets my mind thinking “Nautical.” Around this time of year I start wanting to make items with ships and sea animals and what not. Why is that? Last year, I made several “sailor” themed items (seen here, here, here, here and many more if you look at my etsy sold items from last Summer:p ). I really like working around a certain theme, and I decided to do the same this year. This is a part of my Scrap Heap project. I did not buy new fabrics to make the two dresses above. I really need to work on my current fabric stash or else I won’t have any room for new supplies!
I took out the gray and white pin stripes fabric, and made these sun dresses. I love adding piping in contrasting color, I think it instantly adds edge to a simple garment:)
1.Navy and white striped Tokyo tote ($49), 2. Gold plated nautical anchor pendant charms($1.80), 3. Twisted Bracelet ($16), 4 & 5. Nautical bandeau from Amourouse
Above are my current etsy favorites…
I live pretty close to beaches, and going to the beach often and surfing are in my to-do list for the Summer. What’s in your to-do list for the Summer?

Me too, I want to go to the seaside so badly!
Those two dresses are adorable. LatelyI have the nautical theme in mind as well, I just posted in my blog about a striped dress I made.

Oh my goodness paunnet, I was about to comment on your latest post, since your new dress was made of similar stripes with orange color accent!! What a coincidence and I love your new dress:)

Omg I love the dresses! When I first saw then I thought it’s the same dress, but first set of picture has a cute vest on.they are both so cute. Can I copy your design for the first one? 🙂

of course jue! i’d love to see you variation! i think it works out with pregnant ladies too, since the waist band is placed rather high and the skirt is gathered. i can’t wait to see what you come up with! xo

Oh Chie, I so fell in love with the first one! The fit is so perfect and the orange accent is simply fabulous! You look wonderful, do you know that? I could not even tell that you were pregnant just some months ago! If I ever get pregnant I hope to be just as lucky as you! 🙂
