The baby is 5 weeks old this week! I had her wear her very first dress last Sunday to go to church. I love this dress, it was a gift from my father-in-law, and if there is an adult version of this dress, I would have totally picked it up! It is so anthropologie-ish. Although, looking at the picture of Sophia Kiko below, she does not seem to like the dress as much as I do…
Last week and this week have been really hectic, as we had family over from the States. We went back to my parents’ house during the weekend, and I was afraid that I would mess up the baby’s schedule, but thankfully the baby was cooperative about her bed time. I’ve been feeling so much better since putting her on a regular schedule and getting almost a full nights sleep.
While I was at my parents’ house, I met up with my high school friends for lunch. One of my friends surprised me with this “diaper cake”! Isn’t it so cute? I still haven’t been able to use the diapers since I don’t want to destroy the pretty cake. This makes a great baby shower gift…next time a friend gets pregnant. I searched some tutorials for diaper cakes online, and I found a couple (here and here in Japanese, here for some inspiration photos in English). What’s so great about this cake is that you can use the diapers! Moms out there sure know that diapers are indispensable, right?! :p
After a few days at my parents’ I came home and was surprised to find a gift from my friend Kaitlyn. The strawberry onesie is made out of organic cotton. It’s a little bit big on her now, bum I’m sure it won’t be for long. In fact, yesterday I had to reorganize Kiko’s drawers since her NB onesies no longer fit. Some of them were only worn once because she grew out of them so fast!
Kaitlyn included a nail polish called “The Mood“, which changes color depending on body temperature. I am wearing the polish now, and it’s pale pink since I’m warm. When I did some dishes with cold water, it turned bright pink. It’s fun! I love taking a little time for myself in the morning so I can put on nail polish – it’s a small treat for myself:)
Some people asked me if I plan on keeping my hair long or if I will cut it short now that I’m a mother. I find this question kind of strange..my high school friends asked how I can keep the long hair with a baby to take care of, but I don’t think it’s that hard to maintain long hair with a baby. If the hair gets in the way, all you need to do is to put it up on a bun! What do you think? Did you get a different hair style after becoming a mom?
Back to child raising. Kiko is fussy and so is Andy so I think I should probably put them both down for a nap.

Hi Chie,
You are looking great as mommy 🙂 And so much fun reading about your motherhood adventure.
Personally I had my hair long through the pregnancy and for 8 months after. I was waiting for my hair to regain its shine and health. However it didn’t and I experienced a lot of hair lost too post-pregnancy. It’s something to do with the hormones, I was told. In reality, I felt that I had moved away from my identity as a single person to that of a mother… and needed a fresh start with it. Been loving my shorter hair since 🙂
Have a fun day with Kiko!

hi Av! i’ve heard about the hair loss after birth. i have not experienced it yet, but my friends told me about it…
i haven’t had the hair loss, but i’m experiencing very dry skin now. not sure why! my skin had no problems while i was pregnant, but now its so dry even with some skin care products:(

I’m allways switching between long and short hair since I’m more comfortable with short hair and my husband likes longer hair better.
Most women experience some hair loss about three month after giving birth due to the change in hormones. That’s when I cut my hair after my first pregnancy. I was told that it is possible that you loose some hair after you stop breastfeeding, too. Fortunately that didn’t happen to me.
I don’t see a reason why you should cut your hair just because you have a baby at home. I find long hair a lot easier to style than short hair.
Have fun with your daughter!

Speaking of diaper saw a report of a Brazilian doctor, she said that babies can go without a diaper, they serve to protect us from wetting or soiling and several mothers who are full time with your baby know the signs that your baby makes when he has to go to the bathroom would be a kind technique.
What about cutting hair, I kept my hair cut, during pregnancy and up to today! My daughter will complete two years on June 23.
I’m sorry for the mistakes in English …
I loved the idea of the diaper, you can do at home to give as a gift to any mother!

I just cut my hair because I got tired of always wearing it up when breastfeeding and it took too long to dry & such. Feels good to have a new look & have it short for the summer.
Her dress is so pretty!

awww, how adorable!! she looks very very happy and she looks like a white baby more than mixed right now! 🙂
i think i wuld have whatever hair i would have had when i am not having a child! even though it always takes a long time for my to do my hair in the morning (short or not, i have to straighten my hair every morning cos its so poofy) i think a prettier mom makes a happier mom and thus a happier child! 🙂
Chie says
i think kiko looks white than asian at this moment too, with her pale skin and blond hair…i dont know how it happened, since neither i nor my husband is blond.
i agree, i think i want to have hair that i like whether i have a child or not. long hair takes time to blow dry, but i can always put it in pony tail! i find it much easier than short hair:)

i was just about to say that you look really lovely in the photo of you with your baby, and then i read further down about people suggesting you cut your hair just because you have a baby!- you should definitely just do what you want to do (baby or not) 🙂
ps. i really want to try that mood nailpolish! seems like fun 🙂 x
